I saw her play this exact piece in Sioux City yesterday Sioux City Symphony is super talented as well and Sarah couldn't get my ticket signed during intermission sadly😔

She is a beautiful violinist, her violin makes you feel alive breathing each note and phrase of the Bruch Concerto, and she looks so sexy with that green mermaid green dress; she is the Yuja Wang of the Violin.

Imagine going to see this amazing work of musical art back in the day and having your emotions tugged as much as they are today. Crazy to think Mendelsohn was too sick to go to the opening. It's one of the best concertos ever. Truly how you bring a grown man to tears.

I came here because of this comment: Moving the head became a style element since Jacqueline Dupre started doing so in her youth. It is the expression of 20th century romantic view of a soloist or solo performer. Depending which school you are learning the instrument upon, your teachers will allow you to move the head or completely ban it. I had it banned, as was part of the classic soviet school when learnt cello. There is a romantic view that, for some reason, has been copied among the USA and Asian music schools of how a cellist soloist should perform, and usually that requires adding drama through body motion. In that sense, all the body should be in tune with the music, and therefore, express that tunning with motion and “sentiment”. This “drama” is the acquired taste of moving the head as if “overfeeling” the music. However, some great performers do not do that, or do it much less dramatically. Some will even mumm or sing under breath, such as Casals. There are very many hieratic or static players, Rostropovich being one of them. A word of caution, though. Some very difficult pieces [Haydn, Bach, Piatti] require very little expression motion of the body. The more you move, or the more drama you add, the less precise you will perform. Have a look [not cello] at this piece: The only one playing over dramatically is Shlomo Mintz [the youngest of the four of them]. As you can hear and see, he is always at the brink of being just that millisecond late or behind the tempo. Personally, that drives me nuts.
